Attention Wastewater Customers:
This process is exclusively for property owners. Tenants are not required to go through this process.

Connecticut

For single-family residential rental properties, responsibility for the water bill can vary. Landlords may retain this responsibility, or tenants have the option to apply for service themselves.
- Tenants seeking water service must possess a signed lease agreement for a minimum period of six months. They are required to complete an Application for Water Services, obtainable via this site.
- In multi-unit dwellings, each tenant must have an independent service line to become a customer of Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut.
Landlords typically retain responsibility for the water bill under the following circumstances:
- The dwelling shares one service line with an adjoining dwelling (e.g., duplex).
- A multi-family dwelling is serviced by a single meter.

Upon vacating a property, the tenant must contact us to initiate the account closure process. Upon receiving notification, we will cease the tenant's account and automatically transfer it back into the landlord's name, unless the landlord instructs otherwise regarding service termination. *Please consult the "Customer Care" section Rates Information for information regarding turn-on fees.*
For commercial properties, landlords have the option to transfer the account into a tenant's name under the following conditions:
- There exists a current lease agreement for a duration of at least six months.
- The commercial unit is separately metered.

Residential Single-Family Tenant Deposits – Residential single-family tenants must provide a security deposit of $100. The Company will not refuse to provide utility service to a residential customer who lacks the financial ability to pay a security deposit as defined under Sec. 16-11-68 Customer Deposits of the Connecticut Agency Regulations of the PURA.
Commercial Tenant Deposits – Commercial tenants must pay a deposit that is equal to one and one half (1.5) months’ usage. An initial deposit of $100 will be required, which is reviewed for adequacy after the first bill. If usage is less than $100 for one and one-half (1.5) months, the deposit will be adjusted and the account will be credited. However, if usage is higher, the tenant may receive a request for an additional deposit up to $300. If a customer has an excellent credit rating with Aquarion, the security deposit for a new location may be waived. Deposits are subject to simple interest at the legal rates as subscribed under the General Statutes.

When an account with a deposit has maintained an excellent credit rating (no late notices or fees) for one year, the deposit plus interest will be credited to the account at that time, or upon final termination of the account with Aquarion.
Aquarion will not refuse to provide utility service to a residential customer who lacks the financial ability to pay a security deposit as defined under Sec. 16-11-68 Customer Deposits of the Connecticut Agency Regulations of Connecticut’s Public Utility Regulatory Authority.

Massachusetts

If you are a landlord with a commercial tenant, you may transfer billing to your tenant, if the premise is serviced by one service line and meter.
The tenant must have a signed lease agreement for at least a six-month period and must complete an Application for Water Services – please contact us to receive a copy via fax or email.
When a tenant contacts us upon moving out of a property, we will automatically place the account back in the landlord's name, unless instructed by the landlord to shut the service.

New Hampshire

Landlords may retain responsibility for the water bill, or your tenant can apply for service.
The tenant must have a signed lease agreement for at least a six-month period and must complete an Application for Water Services or they can contact us to receive a copy via fax or email.
A tenant in a multi-unit dwelling must have an independent service line to become an Aquarion Water Company.
Landlords retain responsibility for the water bill if:
- A dwelling is serviced by one service line with an adjoining dwelling (duplex)
- A multi-family dwelling is serviced by one met

When a tenant contacts us upon moving out of a property, we will automatically place the account back in the landlord's name, unless instructed by the landlord to shut the service.
