Environmental Champion Awards

Find out what it takes to be an Environmental Champion

Think of a person, non-profit, or company who has made a real difference to our environment. It could be through a volunteer effort to protect our water sources. Improve air quality. Safeguard land. Or improve wildlife habitat. You’ll find all the criteria below.

And don’t be shy about telling us what you’ve achieved. We welcome self-nominations!

Our award categories include the following:

Business, Non-profit, and Adult Categories

Win a $5,000 grant to the environmental non-profit of the winner's choice.

student environmentalists

Student Category

Eligible students (Grades 9-12) will win a $1,000 award.

Award Criteria

Awards will be given to volunteer projects that excel at:

  • Significantly contributing to the improvement of environmental quality through the protection, conservation, restoration, communication and/or stewardship of natural resources (air, water, soils, plant and wildlife communities)
  • Demonstrating a high achievement level
  • Creating sustainable or reproducible results

Any nominated program must have been in place for at least one year prior to submission, with the exception of a student nomination, which may have been proposed as a school project within the previous 90 days.

Nomination Guidelines & Tips

  • Self-nominations and renominations are welcome.
  • Only voluntary projects are eligible.
  • Employees, officers, directors, agents, representatives and independent contractors of Aquarion Water Company, as well as their immediate family and household members, are not eligible for an award.
  • We encourage you to submit additional material in support of your nomination (letters of support, news articles, photographs, videos, etc.) Please include your completed nomination form with materials, and note the deadline.
  • Decisions of the judges are final. The judges reserve the right not to make any awards in any of the award categories.
  • Connecticut nominations must be received by May 8, 2026.
  • New Hampshire nominations must be received by May 22, 2026.
