Can I flush disposable wipes down the toilet?
Many people don’t realize that flushing disposable wipes—even those labeled “flushable”—can seriously damage the wastewater system. Unlike toilet paper, these wipes don’t break down easily and can clog pipes, pumps, and treatment equipment. When they combine with grease and other debris, they form large blockages which can lead to sewer backups into homes, environmental pollution, and expensive repairs. To help keep our wastewater system running smoothly and protect the environment, please throw wipes in the trash instead of flushing them.
I own a food establishment. Are there specific requirements for fats, oils and grease?

Can residential households pour fats, oils or grease down the drain?
Residential households shouldn’t pour fats, oils, or grease down the drain because these substances can solidify and clog pipes, leading to costly plumbing repairs. When they enter the sewer system, they can cause blockages and overflows, polluting waterways and harming the environment. Instead, it's best to let them cool, collect them in a container, and dispose of them in the trash or through a local recycling program.
Why does Aquarion conduct sewer flushing and pipeline/manhole inspections?
Aquarion performs sewer flushing and pipeline/manhole inspections to prevent system backups and identify necessary improvements that help maintain the integrity of the sewer collection system. Inspections are conducted using closed-circuit television (CCTV), which involves running a camera through a section of sewer pipe, typically located between two manholes.

We clean the sewer pipes using a high-pressure water jet. As the jet passes each connection to the sewer system, it may create a pressure wave. This wave can momentarily affect the water and air in your plumbing fixtures—such as toilets, sinks, showers, and floor drains. Most customers won’t notice any changes, but if you do, the effects are temporary.
